Some italian Challenge events, season 2021/2022

Hello everyone,

like every year, after the national Street Mini 4WD Italy, we sum up about our sport which from year to year becomes more and more exciting and full of news!

We ended the 2021/2022 street season positively: new teams were formed and others were interested in our events here in Italy. We are sorry that some of the new teams were unable to participate in this year's national team, Perats, Rumble Unicorns and Silver Swordfish look forward to seeing you at the next events!

The 2021/2022 season was first of all characterized by a better and more professional video arbitration system which, with the passing of events, we have increasingly perfected. It is no coincidence that the latest revision of the referee system was officially included in the Street Mini 4WD 2022/2023 regulation. We raced in numerous highly successful Challenge events, the return of the Vintage Challenge, via the Saber Challenge, and various local Challenges. In short, many events in which one has run individually. As we know, however, the Street Mini 4WD focuses entirely on team events, which are always part of the Cup format. This year we had two Cup events in addition to the national one, namely the Winter Cup and the Summer Cup, both with numerous participants and new ones. levers. With the aim of increasing the cohesion between the elements of each team, we have introduced, again in the 2021/2022 season, a new race format, the Tuning Races, which involve participation in races in which only one car per team is used. The past year saw Tuning events held in Lombardy and Piedmont and a mini 4WD of the Wild category has always been used in the format, but who knows in the future!

And speaking of Wilds, there are some news for the 2022/2023 season which starts right from this October!

Comical mini 4WD, Wild mini 4WD, the official Tamiya measures

Since the reintroduction of regulated Wilds in 2018 (they had been missing since 2001), this category has been limited to single events. The Wilds were also delineated by measures established on the basis of empirical tests on the assembly of the pieces available. In reality Tamiya had already presented the official measures of a regulatory Wild mini 4WD, but these measures had been lost over the years and practically never arrived in Italy. Fortunately, thanks to the help of our Japanese friends, in the last year we were able to recover the correct regulatory measures dictated by mother Tamiya for the Wild category, and we are very happy to introduce them as official measures also for the Wild category in Street Mini 4WD!

Some new Comical measures for 2022/2023 season

The official Tamiya Wild sizes allow not only to run the Wilds on the canonical tracks we are used to, but also to make them go on the track if necessary! This makes the Wild a category that can finally go anywhere, even on the track!

With the alignment of the Wild sizes, however, there remained a void in the range of sizes of the mini 4WD, in particular as regards the diameters and the treads of the wheels. Historically, this regulatory gap included the so-called Original Mini 4WDs, which over time have been identified as Comical Mini 4WD by experts, or, as they call them in Dash! Yonkuro, the Comical 4WDs.

From the 2022/2023 season to fill this regulatory gap, the Comical Mini 4WD category has been introduced to Street Mini 4WD regulation!

Wild and Comical will be used not only in specific events, as we have done so far with Wilds, but also in other contexts. In fact, the ranges of wheels of the two categories will also be used in some Challenges and Cups. Yes, you read that right: from this moment it will be possible to use the two ranges of wheel sizes, the Comical and the Wild, in some racing situations, in addition to the specific competitions for which they will be used. How will all this be achieved? The most experienced already know that going beyond 35mm in diameter it is always urgent to make an accurate calculation and use of the ratios if you do not want to run into situations in which the machine finds itself without any power and the engine is damaged. How will it proceed?

Clearly not all tracks and not all races will it be expected to give these freedoms. The possibility of using certain ranges of sizes will be indicated on the race guides that we usually consult during the events. In addition, in team events, everything will rely on the experience of a new figure in a Street team!

The fourth element in the team: the variable racer with the convertible car

Starting from the 2022/2023 season the Street Mini 4WD introduces a fourth role in the canonical Street Mini 4WD team. So we go from a minimum number of 3 racers to a minimum of 4. The role that will be introduced is that of the Variable racer, who will be required in the team events and in the Challenges. This figure is similar to the role of "free" player in volleyball, that is the one who intervenes in critical game situations.

Historically the variable racer in the Street Mini 4WD was called number 5: and he was the one who in a team went to cover all those sections of the most complex tracks for a specific racer, or replaced a racer who at a certain moment was not able. running. His car has always been a kind of wild card to be used in critical moments.

The variable racer starting from the 2022/2023 season of the Street Mini 4WD, provides not only the typical tasks of the ancient number 5, but also that of being able to have a transformable car (a multipurpose one). What is a transformable mini 4WD? The variable racer must have a car that can be readjusted faster than the others to very various situations: it MAY provide for the quick assembly of wheels with a canonical diameter from 22mm to 35mm, BUT ALSO wheels that are in the Comical range and in the Wild range. . Therefore, even the gear changes of this car must be quick and range over an acceptable range for the wheels with which it will be expected to race.

To achieve all this there will be a large use of the racer's own technical knowledge and certainly of 3D printing. In other words, the variable racer could also be the one with a better command of the knowledge of mini 4WD within his team, even if it is not a necessary condition.

It may be possible in various cases that the other three team roles and their cars are not able to race at their best on a track or stretch and it will be in this case that the variable racer and his multipurpose car will come to the aid. How will all this be decided? It will be the captain of each team to decide where to employ the variable racer of his team, and certainly during the Cup finals we will see some good ones.

The time is ripe for the fourth element, he will certainly become a very important figure, especially if we want to arrive this summer ... at the World Grand Prix!

Street Mini 4WD World Grand Prix 2023

It seems that the dream of all of us runners can come true during the 2022/2023 season. We have been dreaming of such an event since 1994, and the time is ripe. In Indonesia they have been inviting representatives from other countries to their national event for years, and I myself was in Japan in 2019 for a very successful Street Mini 4WD event. It is with great pleasure that I announce the willingness of various Street Mini 4WD representatives around the world to organize the first Street Mini 4WD World Grand Prix for the summer of 2023!

We are still deciding the exact dates and the place (for example for Italy the Vercelli team has nominated the city of the same name, given the organizational success of the double off-road location and high-speed area that the city offers). What I can reveal is that it will obviously be a team event under the Street Mini 4WD rules.

Stay Tuned e Keep on Running!
